Kingston-born Vybz Kartel first came to the attention of the Dancehall world with a crowd-pleasing spot at the ’98 ‘Champions In Action’. His talent didn’t go unnoticed and he was soon put on the books by Bounty Killer as a lyrics man and went on to supply the warlord with a string of massive hits. Going solo Vybz’s popularity continued to rise, topping the bill at stage shows both in JA and foreign, while his freestyling mix-CDs were eagerly snapped up by the Dancehall massive as soon as they appeared on the underground market. 2002 saw him crowned DJ of the year at Stone Love’s 30th Anniversary Dance and the following year saw Vybz take it to the next level, signing to Greensleeves Records and delivering two highly-acclaimed chart-topping albums.
