Augustus Pablo

Augustus Pablo’s influential far east style emerged almost fully formed scoring debut hits with  ‘Iggy Iggy’ and ‘East Of The River Nile’ for producer Herman Chin Roy. Moving on to Randy’s to work with Clive Chin, Pablo cut the classic ‘Java’, a massive hit and that was followed up with the essential album ‘This Is Augustus Pablo’

While Pablo continued to make some crucial recordings for producers like Derrick Harriott and  Keith Hudson his focus moved more and more into production with highlights being Jacob Miller. TeTrack, Hugh Mundell and the essential dub set ‘King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown’. A long standing connection with Greensleeves was established with the release of the awe-inspiring ‘Original Rockers’ collection, a corner stone of any self-respected reggae fan.

Over the next two decades, as each successive wave of musical styles and fashions ebbed and flowed, Pablo continued to make music completely unmoved by whatever happened to be this week’s flavour of the month. Fads came and fads went but Pablo’s transcendental releases were always timeless and full of a power beyond the here and now that, at times, seemed to stretch into infinity.
