Sister Nancy

Sister Nancy’s place in Jamaica’s Hall Of Fame is unassailable. Her 1982 hit ‘Bam Bam’ is one of the most popular Jamaican recordings in the genre’s history and remains a staple of any reggae, dancehall or hip hop selector’s playlist. Encouraged by her brother, the celebrated DJ Brigadier Jerry, Nancy first entered the DJ ring chatting on local sounds Chalice and Black Star before moving up a division with Echo Tone and Stereophonic, performances that attracted the attention of producer Winston Riley with whom she recorded ‘Bam Bam’ along with the successful ‘One Two’ album. Nancy also voiced a number of sides for Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes including ‘The Yellow, The Purple and The Nancy’  a three the hard way set with Purpleman and of course Yellowman who she shared royal billing with as the King And Queen of Dancehall on Junjo’s Aces International sound. Sister Nancy continued to record throughout the eighties and very early nineties for the likes of King Jammy, Bobby Digital and Shocking Vibes before relocated to New York in 1996.
